The photographs of South Uist and Eriskay by Dr Kenneth Robertson

WEBSITE LAST UPDATED: Thursday 11th August 2016

Welcome to the website showing some of the wonderful photographs taken by the late Dr Kenneth Robertson who worked as one of the physicians at the Sacred Heart Hospital, Daliburgh, South Uist from 1956 through to 1980.
A keen photographer, using primarily a Roliflex and Leica, he took many hundreds of photographs of the people and landscape during a time of great change on the islands.
Most of the selection of photographs on this website did not appear in either of the books which were published recently, and many have never been seen.
This site can display up to 700 photographs, and will be updated regularly so it's worth checking now and again.
There is also a Facebook page (Dr Kenneth Robertson Photography Archive) which you can access from this website.
It's used primarily to give easy access to unseen photographs that, in general, are not technically his best, but are none the less hugely interesting and of historic value, and have prompted a lot of discussion amongst family and friends of those featured. It really is well worth a look - even if you're not a Facebook aficionado!
If you can identify any of the people or houses shown in the photographs featured in the website's Gallery that are either not recorded or wrongly labelled please feel free to let us know through Contact Us, giving the reference (shown on the left of the individual photos), or a brief description.
Also, if you have any memories to share we would be delighted to hear from you.
Many thanks for visiting.
